TEMPEH LIKE NEVER BEFORE
Our fresh-frozen tempeh is rich in flavor, high in protein, and packed with nutrients.
Tempeh is a traditional fermented soy product originating from Indonesia. Tempeh is made from whole soybeans, fermented for 24-48 hours to form a firm savory cake that is high in protein and nutrients.
A delicious plant-based source of protein, tempeh has a firmer texture that than of tofu and a full and buttery flavour. Its nutritional value, high protein content, full but mild flavor, and firm texture make it a versatile vegetarian replacement for meat and fish, and an ideal source of nutrients and protein.
Counter Cultured Tempeh is the only tempeh locally produced in the Kootenays. Our tempeh has a rich and buttery flavour not found in traditional grocery store tempeh. We craft each batch carefully using eco-friendly methods and high-quality ingredients, maintaining the full and freshly baked flavour only found in homemade tempeh.
Unlike most grocery store tempeh, our tempeh is fresh-frozen, so we can deliver it to you with its unique flavor and full nutritional value maintained. This allows us to sell our tempeh unpasteurized – keeping the probiotics that give tempeh its unique nutritional profile alive.
Tempeh’s fermentation process and retention of the whole bean give it a richer flavor, firmer texture, and higher content of protein, dietary fiber, and vitamins than tofu.
Tempeh has around 15 grams of protein in just half a cup – compared to just 10 grams of protein per half-cup in tofu. Containing all the essential amino acids, tempeh is a complete source of vegetarian protein. Tempeh also has a large amount of fiber and is an excellent source of iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium, and B-vitamins. Fermentation adds additional nutritional value to tempeh, making the proteins and nutrients in soy more digestible and making tempeh a fantastic source of probiotics. Learn more here.
