Based in Salmo, BC, we are proud local producers of craft-made fermented foods. We are devoted to supplying the Kootenays with foods of the highest quality, made using natural, local and eco-friendly ingredients.

Our logo is  “Small Batches – Big Flavour!” and we hold true to that. Founded by Greg Janssen in 2018, his enthusiasm for food and fermentation is evident in his products. Greg started his love of fermentation with brewing beer in the states, then expanded to lacto-fermented foods. He likes his ferments to be a bit on the crispy side, like a “fermented salad” and hopes that people start incorporating his ferments into their daily diet to add freshness, zing and digestibility. We hand-craft each batch to ensure that it is packed with natural flavours and nutrition. There is a difference you can taste immediately when you eat local food made from fresh organic ingredients.

Meet the Owners

Greg and Katherine own and run Counter Cultured Foods. All the recipes are Greg’s, but the whole family is happy to taste and give feedback. Due to the flexibility of fermentation there is plenty of opportunity to be creative with our delicious ferments.
